My research focuses on extracting multi-millennium records of wildfires, mineral dust and trace metals atmospheric contamination within deep ice cores retrieved from polar and alpine glaciers. I use a multi-proxy approach to paleoenvironmental reconstructions employing a broad array of analytical techniques to characterize ice chemistry and determine the source of englacial impurities. The goal of the Ice Core geoChemistry and Climate Change (IC4) research program is to provide a spatial and temporal perspective on the current man-made alteration of the atmospheric composition and supply new scientific results with meaningful impacts for science, society, and decision-making.
I am currently leading an NSF-CAREER project investigating how environmental changes have favored the transport of aerosols towards the High Arctic over the last millennium.
